Coastal scenes of Iceland

Our tour guide, Havar, who enriched our trip with full commentary and tales about this wonderful country.
the famed Iceland horses which are short and stocky, with a tuff of hair in front. They are bred as show horses, and for riding, but not for racing or work. Nice life, what?
Majestic and dramatic coastal scenes.

Black Beach

So called because it is black with lava deposits.

Breidafjordur nature and cultural reserve center

Diamond Beach

So called because the ice cubes left on the beach by glacier resemble chunks of diamonds. They are also edible--I have sampled some.

Fissure dividing the island

Giant fissure that divides the island into east and west regions.

The Great Geysir geothermal area

So abundant in geothermal power that Iceland has excess energy to give away. Hot water and heat supply, not to mention spas. Note open air warn water swimming pools in zero degree weather!
The Blue Lagoon spa.
